Users Import

Asked By: Erin    Date: Nov 17    Category: MOSS    Views: 627

I am having the following problem.

When I check the users profiles for a couple of users in the "Shared
Services Administration: SharedServices" I see that the work email is
correct, meaning it has been correctly updated from Active Directory. Now
once I am on the sharepoint site and I do a search on the employee list,
the data is outdated.

Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

In MOSS, there is a crawl from AD to update information into user profiles.
Then, there are timer jobs to update the information from the user profiles  into
user lists in site  collections. So there can be a delay before updates filter
down into user lists.

However, the timer jobs only update user list  entries for "active" users. You
can get an issue where a user list entry is created in a site collection where
the user has read-only access through being a member of an AD group. The user is
then never regarded as an "active" user because he/she never contributes, so the
timer jobs never update the user list entry.

There may be tools around to address this. The ways we workaround the problem
for a user when it arises are to either temporarily add the user to a group in
the site collection (forcing the update of their details), or open their entry
in the user list and click on the link next to "Last modified by" at the bottom
(it's a mystery to me why this does anything, but our support people tell me it
works).
