User profiles without enabling My Sites

Asked By: Adrianna    Date: Jul 19    Category: MOSS    Views: 1092

From everything I've read, the rich user profiles accessed by people
search are completely integrated with My Sites. Does anyone know of any
out-of-box configuration that will enable people search to access just
the AD-populated and user-editable profile the without enabling full My
Site functionality? The desired result is a rich company directory in
the immediate, while we give HR/legal/employee learning time to develop
policy and training on use of My Sites.

The profiles  within SharePoint 2007 are truly integrated  to
My Sites. However if you do not deploy My Sites you are still able to use
the profile  engine. You will need to probably make a few tweaks to the
system to allow users to potentially update their profile data but it is
feasible. Within the people  search when you select a user  is simply
redirects them to the "Person.aspx" file and lists their details. When you
have the full  blown My Site it still doers the same but has better
experience with document libraries etc.
