User can delete an occurance in a meeting

Asked By: Brian    Date: May 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1563

Not sure how to phrase this but,

I have a calendar setup and all users are contributors. I also have
item-level permissions set to see all items and only edit there own.
This works great except when a meeting is setup as a recurrence.

If I create a meeting that is a single meeting, nobody else can edit or
delete the meeting. If I set the meeting up with a recurrence, the
user can individually delete each meeting.

Example: I create a meeting with a daily recurrence for two weeks and
it starts on the 1st. The user can edit and delete each meeting
individually. Is this a stand functionality or a flaw? Am I missing

The question is clear and yes I can see it as a problem. I think the issue is
that no one has a suggestion on how to fix the issue. It happens because the
deletion of the specific event in the recurrence  isn't actually a deletion. If
you switch to the all events view you will see that the deletion is actually
entered as a NEW event. Delete that NEW event and the calendar  reverts to
normal. I don't think there is a way to fix your problem.

I just wanted to make sure that I did not miss
something. Is MS aware of this? For my example  is not a huge
concern, but there is that false sense that the security is there,
but rather a user  could delete  the event by deleting each reoccurring
event seperatly.
