User already exists

Asked By: Garret    Date: Jan 20    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 4540

I am adding a user and SharePoint recognizes the domain/usernamd but--
then says-- "Cannot add the user because a user with that name already
exists. "

Anyone ever see this.? We are using 2 domains -- one for internal
users and one for external users. We are serving SP to Extranet.

The user  probably has been deleted from the site, but not site collection. Go to site collection admin and remove the user there.

I just went to the Site Collection and went to ---
SiteSettings/ViewInformationAboutSiteUsers and the name is not
there. Plus I see no mechanism to delete names anyway!

When I go to SiteSettings/ManageUsers for the Site Collection, I see
just A FEW NAMES-- of those folks who are members of this "Highest"
level site!

Am I missing a control?

When I go to the Site Collection and 'manage users', all I see is a
very few user  names-- just those who are assigned to the Site
Collection! Do you see the total of ALL users  for all the
subordinate sites in this collection?

You can also check the profile database and user  information table.

Are you suggesting to search the underlying SQL Server tables or is
the profile DB and User Info tables part of the SP Admin tools.

You see-- our Server Farm is admined by a centralized Corp Group and
I dont have access. I admin 2 portals, I dont have all the keys.

You can access both through the admin UI:

Profile Database:
Portal Site Settings - Manage Profile Database (under user  Profiles,
Audiences and Personal Sites)

User Information Table:
Portal Site Settings - Mange security and additional settings (under
General Settings) - Show User Information (under users  and Permissions).
Here you can make edits.

Append this to your portal URL and you can delete users:

one of a few good gems. Here is my full list, most are
plainly available through the UI.

I have menu and menu items, I have to display the menu
and items depends on wether the user  has rights to
access or not.

I used
SPRoleCollection spr= user.Roles;

while looping thru spr, exception throws" access

how i can check user roles?

This has been attempted by many and most have not completed the task. As
you may have already heard, all user  interface elements will likely be
security trimmed in the next release.

What menu do you specifically want to hide?
