Upgrading to 64-bit Search Server

Asked By: Kristin    Date: Feb 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 9934

We are upgrading our Search Server to 64-bit and want to migrate all of the
index data. Anyone know of a way to do that? It looks like the index data will
get dumped if we stop the 32-bit box.

The index  will get dumped if you migrate  to a new server. In general there
is no good way to migrate the index. You are much better off doing a Full
Crawl after bringing up the new Index server.

Is there a way to have the new 64-bit  box run
a Full Crawl while it is side-by-side with the 32-bit  one? The end would be to
have a full index  ready to go when we swap the servers. Looking at the STSADM
commands it shows I can attach a search  server to a particular content database
but will it butt heads with the existing 32-bit box  in any way?
