How to Upgrade WSS v3 to MOSS 2007

Asked By: Ralph    Date: Oct 07    Category: MOSS    Views: 10284

I am planning to move all of my WSS v3.0 sites and content database to MOSS
2007 (Server model). Could you please point me to some good resources which help
me to make this upgrade/migration complete?

I was wondering if you ever got any response on this topic. I don't
see one. I am also looking for any tips, advice, resources on this
topic.

I google'd and got some references. Most of the articles gave inputs for
IN-PLACE upgrade. I did not want to do an in-place upgrade  unless i am sure
everything works in the production and also no data is lost in the upgrade
process. I wanted to test deploy the sites from wss  to MOSS.
The only solution i got/did was to "export" each individual site in WSS using
stsadm.exe and then "imported" onto MOSS using the same stsadm.exe.
Couple of sites worked really well as long as the data in them was not huge. ~
500MB. Also, the version history was not what i expected to be after it was
imported. I had one site which was ~3GB in data. The export/import failed for
this site.
Then i used AvePoint's trial version of DocAve 4.5. Thats a pretty good
application which migrated/moved all the site data plus putting all the version
history in tact. I will surely suggest you using the trial version of this
application.
