Upgrade SPS2001 to SPS2003

Asked By: Clifton Ball         Date: Mar 20, 2003      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 263

Hello

I am looking for opinions

We are running SPS2001 now; we have over 30,000 documents on 10 portals….not a lot of customization.

My questions are:

Should I upgrade?

Is 2003 stable enough?

Are the new functionalities worth the upgrade hassle?

Reason I ask is because I’ve had lots of problems with 2001 when it first came out.

Let me know what you think

ou'll want to first take a look at upgrading and run a pilot before doing so. 2003 is a *very* different product than 2001 and one of your largest problems will be unlearning 2001 to learn 2003.

For all practical purposes, 2003 is a 1.0 product because of all the changes and porting to the SQL database. IMHO, you'll need to get some education on 2003 and then run a pilot and then decide if upgrading is correct or not.

Thanks for asking this question. I don't know how we'll migrate whole SPS v1 docs to v2.Most of our documents are linked.user point of view i think there is no much advantage with v2.
