Upgrade question- Profile photos in MOSS 2007

Asked By: Kavisha    Date: Apr 22    Category: MOSS    Views: 810

As we upgrade from SPS 2003 to MOSS, one big difference we've seen is
the way profile photos are handled.

In SPS 2003, there was a picture URL that could be added by the
individual or by a system admin. This could easily be changed as needed.

In MOSS, you need to go in and "add picture" which uploads a copy of
your photo to a new folder in your "My Pictures" called "Profile
Photos." This is annoying (if you ask me), but also seems to be

In the migration of mysites, the photo displayed in the MOSS profiles
is actually referencing the old Picture URL. When you try to change it,
it changes in the profile, but your photo displayed in discussion lists
seems to still be pulling the original from the picture URL.

I'm very confused as to where all of this info/referencing is happening
behing the scenes. Essentially, I want to be able to remove the picture
URL period and have a new way to upload all staff photos for their
profiles. These should then be displayed anywhere logical, like in the
discussion lists.

Does this even make sense? Sorry- I'm running on no sleep and am going
a little mad. I just need to make sure we get this to work.
