how to upgrade the itemstyle.xsl file?

i have a custom site defition, i want to add some templates to
itemstyle.xsl file to display custom fields in Content Query Webpart,
the problem i faced is my site definition uses publishingResources
feature, which already provisioned the itemstyle.xsl file, so how can i
upgrade this file? upgrade means unghost the itemstyle.xsl provisioned
by publishingResources feature and with my modified Itemstyle.xsl
file.
