Updating Service Pack

Asked By: Christina    Date: Mar 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1105

I just realized that my WFE(s) are at the current level of "...
Service Pack 2 ( KB953338 + KB953334 ).....". And, that there are the following
available updates after my current level. They are listed as: Service Pack 2 + April 09 Cumulative Update ( KB968850 +
KB968851 ) Service Pack 2 + June 09 Cumulative Update ( KB971538 +
KB971537 ) Service Pack 2 + October 09 Cumulative Update ( KB974988 +
KB974989 ) Service Pack 2 + December 09 Cumulative Update ( KB977027 +
KB977026 )

Any suggestions on how best to get to the most recent level of "x.x.x.6524"?

We have only one WFE so updating  not too much of a problem for us. When
we ran into this question of updates we did some research on the topic.

It turns out that the WFE(s) all have to be done at once. A planned
downtime may be necessary to accomplish this.

I recommend downloading and watching the video at this link from
Microsoft on updates:

It is a little over an hour long but well worth the time.

In addition, our SharePoint server is of the Windows 2008 flavor. As
such we need to do what is called slipstream updates.

This involves extracting the installation package from the original
Software install to a disk location. And then extracting all of the
updates into the Updates folder at that location.

Here is a blog on this from the Microsoft SharePoint Team:

This should help with getting the server and the WFE(s) up to the
current patch levels.

The CU are, well, cumulative so to get to 6524 just install it. It
covers everything since SP2.

You should be able to find just that KB to install on Microsoft's site.
It should include the rollup of the others.
