updated item in document library

I am trying to display an "! updated" image when a user checks a
document back in. This would complement the "! NEW" image that
appears
when you first add the document. I have tried the steps on this msd2d
article, but with no luck.

Has anyone done this particular thing? I am not sure what ONET.xml
file
I need to edit for my changes to show up, or if that's even the way
to
go abou it. I would really like to add this functionality because it
would really add to the docLib.
