"Unknown Zone" error in MOSS

Asked By: Stewart    Date: Dec 12    Category: MOSS    Views: 1297

I've got a user that is attempting to respond to a SharePoint 2007
workflow task. When she clicks on "To complete this task" web links she
gets and "unknown zone" message. She's accessing the server from the
internet.

When I try it from our corporate intranet, it's fine.

The server is accessible from both inside our business, and from the
internet. I've not defined multiple server zone because I didn't think
I need to.

Any thoughts on this?

I suspect the problem is that she has not added the URL of the site to the
"Trusted Sites" zone  in IE. Responding to things like workflows often require
the use of things like ActiveX controls or Javascript. When you access the site
on the corporate  Intranet the site is probably defaulting to the "Local
Intranet" zone because you and the server  share an IP address space. Since she
is coming in from the Internet her connection is defaulting to "Internet" which
has the most restrictive security settings.

Look in the lower left corner of IE when you are logged in and when she is
logged in and see what zones you are in. If she is Internet have her use the
Security tab under Tools > Options in IE to add the address to the Trusted Sites
zone.
