Unghosted Site?

Asked By: Vaughn Morin         Date: Jan 30, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 92

I have created 6 or seven lists, saved them as templates, added them to a blank site and saved the site as a template. Before saving the site as a template, I customized it by adding 6 default pages, accessible via tabs (interactive buttons).

Will this site template create unghosted sites? If so, then what do I do for an enterprise solution for customized site templates? The native navigation in WSS is too confusing and we (IT) are charged with making it easy for our average user to facilitate user adoption.

You need to create  definitions instead of templates. You can get started here msdn.microsoft.com/.../spxmlconONET.asp

Sites cannot be unghosted, only pages  within a Site can be unghosted.

That said, if done correctly List and Site Templates (STPs) can be used
to accomplish just what you want without unghosting any pages. How did
you create  them? If you clicked the save button, even once in FrontPage,
you will have some work to do.

I edited the original site  in Frontpage and once I added  all my lists  and finished customizing, I saved  the site as a Site template. I now use that site template  to create  new sites. Are my new pages  now unghosted?

Yes, saving  any Web Part Page using FrontPage always unghosts the page.
