UNC mapped drive?

  Asked By: Deangelo    Date: Feb 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1565

I am successfully able to map our Sharepoint server using its HTTP
address as a network path but I need to map it so that the server is
accessible as a UNC path. Does anyone know a way to do that?

If URL is http://server/sites/sitecollection/list

Try

\\server\sites\sitecollection\list
<file:///\\server\sites\sitecollection\list>

Not sure what the server  needs, but have seen this work OOB.

That functionality is available OOTB for WinXP, Vista, Win2k3, and
Win2k8. The only requirement is that the "Web Client" service be
running on the client machine. The unc  path is the same as the http -
e.g. http://server/site/library is \\server\site\library
<file:///\\server\site\library>

Sorry for jumping in but I have a related question. I have a doc lib
where I have overriden permissions and have a given a couple of users
permissions only to this doc lib. If they use SP everything is
fine, if the pick Actions/Open with Windows explorer or use a UNC
path, the get a blank window with no errors. If I make them site
collection admin, it works fine. I have granted every permission
possible including full control.

I have an issue open with MS but nothing yet. Ideas???
