Unable to see checked out documents

Asked By: Larissa    Date: Mar 22    Category: MOSS    Views: 1497

I've got a odd one:

One of my users copied a bunch of documents into a document library in
sharepoint 2007.

The odd part is that no one can see the documents. This is the first
version of the document, and I did notice that they were not checked in.

Once the document was checked, everything was fine. I assumed that
Owners and Members (and the server admin) should be able to see the
checked out versions.

What the heck is going on here?

I don't have an answer, but have experienced the same thing.

Documents that are uploaded to a document  Library with required metadata
or multiple content types will be uploaded as checked  Out documents.
SharePoint enumerates what should be viewed in a list view by looking at
Checked In versions and then deciding whether the user should see the
checked in version or the most recent checked out version. So Checked
out versions without a Checked in version don't show up for anyone but
the author until they are Checked in at least once.

Administrators can use the Managed Checked out versions link in the
document library  settings to find Checked out versions that don't show
up, take ownership of them, and check them in.
