Trouble when in SharePoint and trying to open up a Excel, Word

Asked By: Eddy    Date: Apr 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 11794

I thougth I had this problem licked based on ideas I got from the forum
a while back. But it is back.

When I am in SharePoint and I try to open a Excel, Word, Or Visio File,
I get a pop up window that says:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.
It shows a debug, send, don't send button on the bottom.

When this problem exists, I can not upload a spreadsheet to SharePoint,
either.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue for good?

What version of SharePoint are you using? What version of Office?

Sorry, I forgot to include that;
SharePoint V3.0 or SharePoint V2.0 - and MSOffice 2003. Plus
Explorer 7.0.

Either Sharepoint with MS Office does it. My cooworker has the same
senario on his computer, and it all works fine.

This senario on my cpu has worked fine for about a month, then it
stopped working as I described below. The only thing I can figure is
it may have happened on an OFFICE update. I am not positive.

I've had to fix  this on at least a half-dozen clients in my office. It
always seems to require that I delete some IE Add-Ons like SharePoint
OpenDocument Class.

Sharepoint will add them back  in, and they seem to work from then on,
unless I do an upgrade of office.
