Trouble Importing Webparts

Asked By: Haley    Date: Oct 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 599

I recently installed SPS on a Windows 2000 server with SP2. I setup
the proxy as per the Resource kit book and I installed Digital
Dashboard 2.01. I have not installed any software other than this.
When I try to import a webpart from the DDRK (which has the
extension .dwp) it comes back with an error saying error on page:
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: HTTP status code: 400
HTTP status text: HTTP error
Code: 0
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it. The rest
of the portal is working fine. I can docs and everything. T

configure the proxy to be port 80, and in the lan advanced settings add '*'
to the list of addresses that will bypass the proxy. the problem appears to
be that your browser cannot go out via http due to the proxy, hence the
bypass. sps  only needs port 80.
run the proxycfg tool and stop/start services.

I have a proxy server but it is using port 8080. I followed the
instructions in the Resource kit for setting up the Proxy Server
settings (ie setting it up under IE and using proxycfg -u at the
command prompt to use the same settings as IE). The proxy in IE is
setup correctly because I can get out to the web. The webparts  I'm
trying to import though are from the DDRK CD. I just double checked
what you said and it looks correct unless I can't use port 8080. Even
still though I did try also setting the proxy up with the fakeproxy
settings as well and it gives me the same message.

We are using port 80 on a fakeproxy. i would try routing sp thru that.
also, have u installed  sharepoint sp1 ?

I just reset it to that as well and no luck. I installed  SP1
yesterday no change. From the Dashboard site that gets created when
you install DDRK2 I can add webparts  but those are html not .dwp
extensions. this is driving me nuts. I had set up SPS several months
ago and I don't remember having this much trouble. I'm sure you're
right it has to do with the proxy but I'm not sure what else to do.
I'm going to try a couple more things and i'll let you know.

Just wanted to let you know I was able to import webparts  through the
internet (microsoft webparts gallery link). So it seems the proxy is
correct but won't let me import webparts with the .dwp extension
locally. The strange thing is that in the exclusions I just listed my
local (*.msdwis.com) and this lets me hit microsoft.com. Anyway, I'll
keep trying.

In your proxycfg, do you have both <localhost> and the actual name of your
computer? If not, that would cause the problem you are having.
