timed alerts or workflows?

Is it possible, without the use of VS, to create an alert or workflow that
will activate a certain number of days after a list item is created? There
has to be a way to do this. I have searched this group and the net and I am
coming up with nothing. Any suggestions on key words to search?

SharePoint Designer has a "Pause Until" action supplied OOB. Without VS
or SPD I don't think its possible  with WSS 3.

You can use sharepoint designer

The workflow  will kick off straight away bit the first step you put in is "wait
x days"
