We have struck a few usability issues with our initial use of discussion boards in WSS. We are still running the Beta 2 Technical Refresh so perhaps the problems have gone away in the released version!

The threading in the discussions is good, but
1) There does not seem to be a setting that just shows the thread headings. Rather it has 100 or so characters for each message. This is fine when it is a new thread to me, but tedious if I want to get to a particular response in a thread.

2) When I do go into a message and want to return to the thread, I do not seem to be able to go back to the opened thread from where I originally came. The only options takes me right back to the discussion board, with all threads collapsed to the first note. This is very tedious if you are wanting to follow responses in a busy thread.

A good thing I have found is that double-clicking a + (expand button) opens up the whole thread.
