Is there a workaround or hack for this scenario?

Asked By: Veer    Date: Dec 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 736

I have a question regarding Non-MicroSoft files and how they can be edited from
a managed space.

We wish to manage PDF, TIF & WinZip files with sharepoint and at times, there is
a need to "stamp" or update the PDF or TIF file and also add new files to the
WinZip archive.

At this time, I am trying to figure out how to accomplish this from within
Sharepoint. Right now, I can access the files and they come up in their
appropriate viewer, but they seem to be "read only" and the Save button is
disabled. After stamping the file, I can do a Save as to an unmanaged
workspace.

Is there a workaround or hack for this scenario?

This is possibkly going to depend on which version you are running (SPS2001,
STS, SPS2003, or WSS), but all should allow you to edit the files  and save  if
you open using an edit mechanism. The simplest (and most universal across all
versions) is to use web folders to access  the files.
