"There are no listings to display"

Asked By: Karen    Date: Jun 20    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 565

I need the text "There are no listings to display" to go away from the
news web part. I searched for an answer to this, but haven't found one
yet. Following is some background.

I want the best of both worlds: news grouped by news area, yet filtered
by audience. Since SharePoint audience targeting/filtering only works
when grouping by audience or at the web part level, I've created a
separate web part per area and assigned audiences for each web part.
For example, I want Houston people to see Houston listings and Austin
folks to see Austin listings, but not see each others'. This is all
fine and dandy, but when several web parts don't currently have any
listings, that annoying text message will show up and keep us admins on
our toes to keep showing/hiding web parts as needed. I would like the
message to disappear when no listing are available.

I'll take a guess on how you might be able to do this.

Try checking the dataset that each webpart has after it loads.
If it's null change the visibility of the webpart.

You should have this code triggered by the webparts loaded event. Not
sure if this exist or not but I would bet that it does.

Would you provide a link (or better yet, some code) to an article
that describes how this is done?

This could certainly be done will a little CSS or JavaScript. Do you
still need this functionality?
