Test and Developemnt environment

Asked By: Bob    Date: Sep 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 807

I have SPS 2K3 installed on one server and SQL DBs on another
server. Everything is going on well and now I want to keep it as
production environment and create my test from that.
Plan is :
1.Our network friend gave me a virtual machine which is a clone of
my from the Physical server on which SPS 2K3 is installed.
2.Our DBA provided a copy of all the 4 databases suffixed with TEST
on a different server.

I am planning to keep the existing setup as my production
environment.

AND
NEED TO CREATE MY TEST ENVIRONMENT FROM THE TWO PIECES I GOT FROM
POINT 1 AND POINT 2 ABOVE.

I HAVE A CHALLENGE TO RENAME THE PORTAL ON MY VIRTUAL SERVER AND
POINT THE DATABASES TO THE TEST DATABASES.

1 word: spsbackup

portal backup and restore.. dont use sql  restore to restore
databases, too messy! just install SPS, create  config db, patch to
same service level, add custom web parts then run portal  restore.
