Sys.invalidOperationException Error when clicking on Page/Edit?

I have a child site. I created a custom list and want to place it on this site. I click "Page" tab and then "Edit" so I can place the list on the site. I get the error "Sys.invalidOperationException: Could not find UpdatePanel with ID 'ctl00_panelZone'. If it is being updated dynamically then it must be inside another UpdatePanel.

What does this mean? Is this a SharePoint bug?
