Survey usage limits?

Anyone seen any upward limits with survey response limits? I have a user who wishes to deploy a survey on their site and is expecting roughly 1000 responses. Should that user break up the questions into multiple, smaller, surveys or can he store it in one larger survey?

Some rumors say 2000 is a hard limit to some of the display Web Parts.
However, the only place I've personally seen this kind of problem is on
an events list. That said, I haven't used or seen others use large
surveys very often.
