Support For Sharepoint

Asked By: Haley    Date: Dec 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 755

The rumor mongers in my department are grumbling about Microsoft
discontinuing support for Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint
Portal Server 2003.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? I would think it highly
unlikely since the product just launched, but you never know.

There is a very active support  for SharePoint Technologies by MS. It is
a core piece of their Office System. I doubt that it will go away soon.
SharePoint Technologies are a core part of collaboration and there is a
big need for collaboration tools.

Not true. We work pretty closely with the SPS product group and the team
has recently gotten larger through a re-org; not smaller.

Another key indicator is how an MS product group's technology picked up and
re-used by other product groups. A good example is how Web Part Pages and
Web Parts will be part of ASP.Net 2.0 when Whidbey release of Visual Studio
comes out. (There is a book on the alpha release of ASP.Net 2.0 here:

With the 2003 release of SharePoint Products and Technologies, SharePoint is
taking on an increasingly more important role at Microsoft.
