Successful Upgrade of SP Portal 2001 to SP Portal 2003

Asked By: Kody Luna         Date: Sep 26, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 457

I have an existing implementation of Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 that
I want to upgrade to Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. The current
implementation is on a single server and I'm interested in upgrading to
a front-end server & SQL 2K back-end server architecture.

Has anyone managed to successfully upgrade an existing installation of
SP 2001 to SP 2003?

After reviewing our current requirements, WSS makes more sense for our
company. However, I'm not sure that there is an easy migration path for
converting SP 2001 to WSS.

Does anyone know if there is an upgrade path for SP 2001 to WSS?

there isn't a direct upgrade  path from SPS2001 to WinSS. ....this
would be an "upgrade-downgrade" scenario.

Checkout
www.microsoft.com/.../prodtechn
ol/office/sps2003/deploy/spST2003.asp.

Any eventual solution would first require going from SPS 2001 to an SPS 2003
SQL Server doc lib; then smigrate.exe might be usable to downgrade to a pure
WinSS site.
