sub site creation question in SPS 2003

Asked By: Tessa Joseph         Date: Aug 25, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 209

I just installed a new machine with SPS 2003 RTM. When I create some sub
sites like http://servername/sites/test1
and
http://servername/sites/test2
with team templates, I don't see a search box on the sub site page. The main
portal site has a search box but any sub sites I create do not.
I have another box that shows the search box when I create subsites. What am I
missing here?

You need to enable the Full Text Search in Windows Sharepoint Services

Full Text Search is only available if you use SQL server 2000 on the
back end. It doesn't work with MSDE for WSS

This does not make any sense. How come on one server the sub site  search box
comes up...which does not have the full version of SQL installed and the other
server it does not. When I refer to the search box, it does not mean
searching...I am referring to the physical view on the web page that shows the
search input box. The one server it works on was upgraded from Beta 2 TR to
RTM.

Search is available on the portal but for Sites it needs to have a full
SQL server available to enable Full Text Search

You can also look in the configuration of WSS to check that Full Text
Search is enabled
