When a sub site is created..question about default.aspx page

Changes have been made to the following pages, yet they dont show up on
the default.aspx page when a subsite is created..
Changes were made to the masterpage, default.layout.aspx and the web
part page templates (found in the smartpages directory in the 12 hive.

What templates are being used for the default.aspx page when a subsite
is created?
