stsadm -o restore

Asked By: Eddy    Date: Dec 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1284

I backed up my site via stsadm
I did this
stsadm -o backup -url http://xserver -filename techback.dat

I want to take this now to another server

stsadm -o backup -url http://yserver -filename techback.dat

but this is not working

if i backup this they don't i have the full database.

i tried restoring
stsadm -o backup -url http://xserver/newsite -filename techback.dat
but it says page cannot be displayed.
I verified that all the sites are there

with stsadm -o enumsites -url http://server/newsite and i see the
same number of sites as http://xserver so i know its there, its just
not coming up.

can i just take the techback.dat file to another sharepoint server
and restore the content?

This can happen for a number  of reasons. Try putting ?contents=1 at the end of
the URL. That will let you in if it's just a web part on that page  that is
unhappy. Something like http://yserver/newsite/default.aspx?contents=1
If that works then you know it's a web part or solution or something that needs
to be installed on yserver.
