STS and SPS: Coexistence

I am aware of
support.microsoft.com/default.aspx
stating
that they are not meant to coexist. I read from davnator2002
[davidwdavis@...] on the thread "Dumb Question" that he was running
them together fine. Does anyone else have any information on this scenerio?

Our admin built a SPS then added Project Server to the same box. We are
trying to test the Project 2002 server and would like to have it all on one
test box. Should we remove SPS? If so, should the machine be rebuilt or can
SPS be removed?
