Strange SharePoint Accessn Problem

Asked By: Deangelo    Date: Jul 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 703

My company uses Share-specific Active Directory groups within the local
groups for access. Recently I have had users who are getting Acess Denied
windows. I am njot seeing any login errors, so I tried adding them locally
within the standard SharePoint groups with no success. But when I add them
to the portal and not within any ADG or local group, they can access the
portals with no issues.

I find this to be a bit odd and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced
the same issue.

Do the AD groups  contain nested groups?

Also what kind of groups  and are they created on the same domain as the server?
I've seen this sort of behavior with:

1) Using Discussion Groups instead of Security Groups

2) Using Security groups in the wrong scope (e.g. a Domain Local group  on a
server in another domain in the same forest, or a Global group containing users
in another domain)

3) Using nested groups where one of the "child" groups falls under #1 or #2

The ADG's are in the same domain as the farm, but the users  within the
groups are from multiple domains. I do not have any nested groups  in the
ASG's used for the farm. The SharePoint ADG's are group  Scope: Domain Local,
Group Type: Security.
