Strange security problem

Asked By: Justin Scott         Date: Nov 07, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 160

I have a strange security problem with my SSL fqdn enabled Sharepoint 2001
server. When I apply the security settings to a workspace, the security does
not get saved i.e. when I add users to the security tab in the Sharepoint Admin
Console, then close the properties box and go back in, the users I have added
have disappeared.

Also, if I try to set permissions on a portal level, I get an error message
saying 'Object Picker cannot open because it cannot determine whether
fully_qualified_domain_name is joined to the domain
Microsoft have an article about it 816818 about it. The article says that the
issue was fixed with SP1 but I have SP2a installed. Strangely, the article also
says 'If you are using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to gain access to your server,
SharePoint Portal Server 2001 SP1 does not resolve this problem'.
Obviously this is not much use since they do not provide an alternative.
If anyone has experienced this and knows how to fix it I would be most grateful.
