.STP to XML

Asked By: Arthur    Date: Jul 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2282

Someone a little braver with XML may find this more useful than I did.

I don't know if this is documented anywhere but it appears that if you
change a site template's file extension from .STP to .CAB, you can
extract the files and read the manifest.xml.

I had intended to use this in order to develop my own site definition
and list features rapidly instead of starting them from scratch each
time.

If nothing else, it was a useful learning experience in building a site
using the web interface and then seeing what the corresponding XML
looked like for that template.

If anybody finds, (or knows), a practical use for this little trick, I'd
be interested in knowing.
