SSP Admin Page

Asked By: Darren    Date: Feb 12    Category: MOSS    Views: 1331

I am trying very hard to set up a SharePoint 2007 but getting nowhere.
This is just a test environment so there is only 1 DC, 1SQL and a
sharepoint server. I seem to have set it up but there is no search at
all. To turn this on I have to go to the Shared Services Provider Admin
page but every time I do I get asked for a username and password. I have
typed every single username and password on my little system and none of
them work. Does anyone know what the username and password for the ssp
admin page is?

I just tried creating a new SSP and watched what I did very carefully. I
typed in the required information slowly to be sure I didn't make any
mistakes but when I got to the end and click the link to take me to the
admin web page it asks for a username and password all over again.

I can go to other pages fine but the ssp admin page is completely

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What application pool did you use to set  up the SSP site? Is it possible that
it's running under different permissions?

I let it use the default name when setting it up
so it is "SharePoint - sspadmin.inn1.coventry.ac.uk80". I gave it a host
header of "sspadmin.inn1.coventry.ac.uk" and the user id for the pool is
"inn1\mosssspapppool". This is all running in virtual server on my
desktop PC. (Not the fastest arrangement in the world but okay for
playing with and easy to recreate when I get it wrong). In fact I was
going to start again and build from scratch today but it seems I now
have it working. I created another new Share Services Provider that
worked this time so it is definitely something I've done. So twice I've
managed to do something that broke it but I have no idea what.

By default the account will be the one that's running the app pool for that ssp
