Front Page editing will not work over SSL.

Importing spreadsheets type of MS Office components will not work either.

I don't remember all the reasoning details but it was something around the way FP uses random ports and Office components use WebDAV as underlying channels.

Other thing you cannot do is WSS/SPS admin over SSL.

It was discussed in one of the webcast few months back. I will be interested in knowing if it has changed since then

Not completely true. FP doesn't work with https://FQDN/ but is does work internally to https://servername/

I'm a little curious. I'm able to edit over SSL.
Were using WSS V2
128 Bit encryption from Verisign and we only have port 443 open  on our firewall and I have had no problems but we are using Basic Authentication.

I still disagree. I just used FrontPage against my Portal that is in an
extranet from an external PC using basic authentication. I'm not sure if I just
haven't tried certain features, but so far it works just fine. There was a lot
of discussion about this some time ago, so I thought we had to have some sort of
SSL accellerator to allow http traffic from our network and force https traffic
from the Internet -- this turned out to be completely wrong. We've since
launched it with only SSL through IIS, and everything seems to work fine. I
even tested STSADM against it last night to install a webpart and that worked
fine as well. All I can say is that SharePoint appears to work correctly with
SSL enabled.

Just curious on how you used STSADM from a desktop PC that resides outside on the public internet and were able to reach your server  sitting inside. Any chance you using a VPN client or RDP?

I used FrontPage from an external PC, but STSADM had
to run on the server. However, the server  is still configured to require SSL.
