Has anyone deployed SPS on a extranet using SSL ?

and if yes, have you encounter any major problems that could not be resolved?

I've managed to deploy it successfully here. I followed Bill's book Chapter
13 on setting it up. Got it to work eventually had to do it a few times,
thought I was doing exactly the same thing each time but that's sharepoint
for you! The only really strange thing I found was that I had NTLM
authentication to start with and it seemed to work fine but when one or two
other external organisations tried to connect the authentication box just
kept popping up and not letting then in. Changed the external site to Basic
and it was fine. One thing you may think about though is as far as I know
you can only set one url for subscriptions and approval e-mails if you have
a secure workspace you would have to set it to the https address other wise
it will not be secure. The problem we have is that we have other workspaces
that are not ssl  and it looks like we will have to make the whole server ssl
unless anyone has an ideas?

We're trying to. We haven't been successful yet. I haven't had a
chance to call Microsoft, I'm hoping they'll be able to help. Will
probably do so tomorrow.

I finally managed to get it working. I used the .vbs config tool from the
resource kit and followed the extranet  doc as well. The one thing I didn't
see in the docs was I needed to install msxml3sp2. My server are all
standardized on xml3sp1 because the developers here claim sp2 breaks their
code so I had only installed xml3sp1 when I bould my sharepoint box.
