SQL Transaction Log for WSS site - Do I need it

Asked By: Aurelio    Date: Feb 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1194

I am using SQL 2000 as the database engine for my WSS sites. The back up has gone very large and I found a huge number of the transaction log on my SQL server.

Do I need this log? Can I turn off transaction log for WSS SQL database?

if you arent log  shipping, just use simple recovery model. microsoft doesnt even support restore using sql  server with sharepoint!

yes, you need it. if performance becomes an issue, make sure the transaction  logs are on a different drive than the databases. If your transaction logs are becoming large, verify your maintenance plans look correct and are working. backups should flush the logs, something could be wrong with your backup software
