SQL connections

Asked By: Tessa    Date: Mar 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 989

Does anyone know if the connections to SQL from Portal server is
considered one connection or multiple connections? For example, if 3
people are using Portal at once does SQL see that as one connection from
Portal or 3?

I took a quick look at this, and this is by no means definitive, but it looks as
though that all the connections  to SQL Server are via the service names that you
selected on install. No user is actually logging into the SQL Server except for
the service accounts. With that said, there are multiple  connections to
multiple databases via the service account and it appears that these connections
will grow and shrink as needed.

So does that mean I need one license? Or Many?

I am not well versed in licensing area, but SQL is licensed on a per processor
or a per client. Per processor is the simple way to go. I am not sure on how you
will license if you do a per-client set up as I do not know how SQL defines a
client. I will do some checking with someone more versed in SQL Server.
