Spsbackup for sps2003

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Sep 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 901

I am trying to use a batch file to run a backup of Sharepoint Portal
Server 2003. I have successfully used spsbackup in the gui form, but
am unable to get a good backup using the command line.

The command line I am using is
spsbackup /all /file e:\test\bak /overwrite

It is my interpretation that this will backup all portal sites on
the server. Sometimes is successfully complete (no errors) but most
times it does not complete or create the backup file.

When it does create the backup file, and I try to read it using the
gui, the message I get is that the portal cannot be selected and
that status is that the component was not selected during backup. I
am able to open the manefest file (this is how I can find the
error). There is only one other file in this folder and I have 8
portals. Shouldn't there be a file for each portal? I am sure that
it is something simple that I am missing, but the harder I try, the
worse it seems to get.

Try and use the sharepoint  gui for backup.

Sometimes when a backup  has been stopped abruptly there is a lock on it and the command line utility does not back it up.
