SPS2003: Possible to use SPS Data Backup and Restore

We decided to use SQL Server 2005 for the back-end database in a new SPS2003 install, but spsbackup doesn’t run properly since SQL 2000 client tools can’t connect to SQL 2005 databases.

Will spsbackup function if I un-install SQL 2000 client tools and install the SQL 2005 Management Studio? If not, has anyone else come up with a workaround, or is spsbackup of no use with SQL 2005 data?

Yes it should...

If you are using SQL 2000 in the backend, then you need SQL 2000 Management Tools on your FE web servers.

If you are using SQL 2005 in the backend, then spsbackup.exe will require the SQL 2005 managment bits on the FE webs...

(I've never tried it myself personally, but have heard many who have with success...I'm still stuck on 2000 for now)

with SQL 2005 you have to install client components to connect to your dbs
