SPS v2 security question

How do I give access to a specific Subarea but keep the other
Subareas's hidden?

I removed security access in the parent list but gave access to a
specific Subarea but that person could not even access the web site
after that change.

I could do this with SPS v1 but can't figure it out in SPS v2.
