SPS V2: Event ID 502

I was looking in the Event Viewer on my SPS server and noticed that this error
is happening every 30 seconds:

Source: SharePoint Portal Administration Service
Event ID: 502
Description: An exception occurred in the search synchronizer

I also noticed that when I go into my Configure Search and Indexing page, I get
this message: Failed to initilize content sourcees. And when I click on Enable
advanced search administration mode, I get this message: Object reference not
set to an instance of an object.

Does anybody know what is happening?
