SPS V2: Database size

Asked By: Corey    Date: Aug 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 687

When you delete documents from within the Portal, does SPS actually delete it
from the SQL database or does it keep all the entries?

This is what I noticed:

I uploaded 4 Gigs worth of documents. I then deleted it from within the Portal.

I uploaded 4 Gigs again. I then deleted them.

I did this 4 times.

And now I noticed my Site database is 18 Gigs in size.

Can somebody please advise?

SQL Server doesn't automatically shrink database  so basically database
will grow until it is shrunk. In addition there is conditions where it
cannot be shrunk where it needs optimization first. This could explain
why the database keeps growing.

Also, I know that Sharepoint does not delete  the document immediately,
not sure what the condition is exactly but I believe the Sharepoint
Timer services will take care of deleting the files at a later stage
