SPS v.2 database requirements?

Asked By: Wayne Fox         Date: Apr 19, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 203

I'm evaluating a potential move to SPS v2 and have a question about
the database requirements. The Req's on the MS site for v1 do not
mention SQL; however, for v2 it makes a very big deal of the SQL
requirement.

A couple of questions on this. First, only MS SQL products are
mentioned? What about Oracle? MySQL? Others?

Also, is a full-blown SQL product even necessary? The requirements
mention MSDE (Desktop Engine). Wich makes it sound like I can go
ahead with SPS v2 *without* acquiring a stand-alone SQL database.
However, I've been burned by the concept of "minimum" requirements
in the past. So...

Does anyone have experience deploying v2 with MSDE? If so, what is
the performance like (without a full blown copy of SQL 2000)?

You can use MSDE and it works great, the problem is that MSDE throttles
connections at 5. If you use full  blown SQL, I am 99% sure you need MSSQL
2000.

And to clarify further, you need MS SQL 2000 >>SP3<<
