Can anyone tell me if the following will work on a portal site?

I'm assuming so as (all?) of the sites are configured as WSS?

The template will work  for a WSS site  that is attached, linked to or available as a part (visibly) of your portal.

But the template can’t be used to create a portal. Portals and WSS sites  are separate.

Yeah, thought so. So, I created the site, and can't see where it gives me the option to use this template. In fact, I don't see them anywhere - they're still located in the temp folder that I extracted them to. Where are they stored normally?

To install this download:

1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your server.

2. Double-click the program file on your hard disk to extract the template files to a location on the server.

3. Open the top-level Windows SharePoint Services site  where you will install the template.

4. On the link bar, click Site Settings.

5. In the Administration section, click Go To Site Administration.

6. In the Site Collection Galleries section, click Manage site template gallery.

7. On the Site Template Gallery page, click Upload Template.

8. Browse to the location where you extracted the template and select the template. Click the Open button.

9. Click Save and Close to upload the template.

Instructions for use:

1. Open your Windows SharePoint Services site.

2. On the link bar, click Create.

3. In the Web Pages section, select Sites and Workspaces.

4. Complete the information and then click Create.

5. On the Template Selection screen, select the new template from the list, and then click OK.

To use InfoPath forms:

Note: Do not click the Submit button in the InfoPath form until you have completed the following steps.

1. Open your new Windows SharePoint Services site.

2. On the link bar, click Documents and Lists.

3. In the Document Library section, for each form library complete the following:

1. Open the form library.

2. Select Modify settings and columns.

3. In the General Settings section, select Relink Forms to this form library.

4. Select the Relink check box for the forms you want to link to this form library.

5. Click Relink Forms.

However, even after following the directions, the templates  are not show although I can see them in the template area.

Any ideas?
