SPS Search for Websites

Asked By: Devan    Date: May 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1379

Does anyone know the limitations of SPS search pertaining to a content source of Web page or Web site?

We would like to create an content source of our own website. If the site is coded in specific languages or if the data for these pages is stored in a SQL server will the indexing service run into trouble finding these pages or the content on them?

This is not a complete list, just a few things I learned doing something similiar.

1. Get the CFM ifilter is you have coldfusion pages.
2. Get the adobe ifilter if you have pdfs
3. Include complex urls (?), especially if you have aspx
4. I usually exclude a site  and then include whatever urls I want. This will keep menu bars an so on from appearing in your index.

The best way is to do it on a dev SPS and see what kind of search  results you get, then fine tune and copy to production when ready.
