Yes, we also have encountered this problem. Most of the My Site content is
associated with the user's profile which is identified by the domain name\user
ID pair. Some information, however, is also associated with the Active Directory
SID. So if a user changes domains, there is a conflict between the profile and
the SID, hence the error message you are receiving.
Unfortunately, when the domain name changes you will need to recreate all the My
Sites so that they are associated with the new domain. We had a MS consultant
give us access to a utility he was working on (which was in beta at the time)
which automates this process (changes all content associated with the My Site
plus any user-based security that may have been applied to your portal areas and
team sites). We have not yet tried to implement this solution in production. You
may be able to contact MS for this utility as well. It is called SPSUSERUTIL.
The manual way around the My Site problem is to use the SMIGRATE tool to move
content from the old My Site to the new one. I believe alerts will not be
migrated with this approach however. And any user-based security that you have
set on your portal or team sites will not be fixed.
This article will give you some info on the different type of backup and restore
options, including SMIGRATE...
