SPS Multi Domain Issue

Asked By: Kody Luna         Date: Mar 23, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 420

Our existing setup is as follows:

Windows NT 4.0 Domain Controller with Exchange 5.5 for Email. We have
3 sites each has its own Domain Controller. Each site is linked to
each other via 64K DDN and Trusted to each other using Windows NT 4.0
trusted theory.

SharePoint is installed on a Compaq ML 570 box with Windows 2000 Adv.
server as the OS of the box with SP2. This SPS Box is configured to
be a member of the Domain.

SharePoint works fine for all the users in the same site ( Same
Domain), but users on other Domain Controller cannot access the
Sharepoint, but they can access other application on the same server.

In the past this has always turned out to be a WINS issue  for me where the
SPS server could not find a way back to the remote DC for authentication and
grant a user access to the site. Try using the "NLTEST" WinNT resource Kit
utility to ensure the trusts are all up and running.

This Q article has information on NLTEST Q158148.

What do you mean by cannot access? Do you mean that they cannot see the
site or do you mean that authentication does not work?

My assumption is that you are getting an error page saying that access
is forbidden. This is an NT4 / Win 2K authentication issue  and the only
way around it is to create a basic authentication site  within
SharePoint.
