SPS Error - Diagnostics Settings

In our live SPS 2003, we are unable to get alerts
whenever document changed in document library.

So I tried to do diagnostics setting, Now i am getting
"Unexpected Error occurred".
Even I select Edit "Notification Service" it is
throughing an error "Object reference not set to an
instance of an object."

Please Help required to solve this problem.
