SPS 2003: Windows SharePoint Services

Asked By: Jena    Date: Feb 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 810

I know that it's possible to setup multiple Portals on one server by
having multiple IP addresses. But does it work the same when setting up
multiple Windows SharePoint Services?

Yes. WSS also has an additional option called "Scalable Hosting Mode" which
allows more flexibility in this area. Details are in the admin docs.

I was able to successfully install just WSS. I created multiple top
level sites and was successful there. But now the question is, how do I
back this up? With SPS, there was an option for me to select Backup and
Restore under the Start menu. But with WSS, I don't see this. Any
recommendations?

I figured out how to do it via the smigrate command.

smigrate doesn't preserve users and permissions. It's useful for moving
WSS sites around, but if you are looking for a full backup, "stsadm -o backup"
is a better choice...

Does stsadm.exe backup everything like the backup that is provided with
SPS (including the SQL db)? I did a backup and the .dat file (stsadm)
was only 50K compared to the .fwp file (smigrate) which was 200K.
